Lady Pups of Burnet keep adding to win column
LAMPASAS — The Burnet Middle School eighth-grade A girls basketball team added win No. 12 for the season thanks to beating Lampasas, 31-15, recently.
The Lady Pups (12-1, 5-1) started the game slowly, taking a 3-2 lead after the first period.
But then they hit their stride in the second quarter, dropping in 15 points and holding Lampasas scoreless.
"I was extremely pleased with the girls who came off the bench and contributed to both the scoring and defensive effort," coach Keri Waide said. "We had some kids step up and hit big shots, especially in the second quarter."
Burnet didn’t score in the third, but a tough defense allowed them to take an 18-11 lead into the final quarter. That’s when the Lady Pups scored 13 points.
Taylor Denton led Burnet with seven points, including a three-pointer, followed by Riley Scott’s six, Shelby Wilson’s five, including a three-pointer; Hannah McCurry’s four, Micayla Light’s three-pointer, and Danielle Lindley, Mackenzie Barnard and Sarah Poe’s two apiece.
"We had a huge defensive letdown in the third quarter and definitely have some areas we need to continue to get better at, but this team continues to play hard and play together," the coach said. "I’m very proud of their effort and the way they battle when things aren’t going their way."
The Lady Pups will travel to Salado Thursday.
