Short week will make things interesting for Faith Academy basketball teams
MARBLE FALLS — This week will be one of the more challenging for the Faith Academy basketball teams.
Both will travel to face Austin Waldorf today with the Lady Flames (20-2, 2-0) playing at 6:30 p.m. followed by the boys at 8 p.m.
And instead of playing on Friday, Faith will host Kerrville Our Lady of the Hills Thursday. The girls will take to the court at 6 p.m. with the boys to follow at 7:30 p.m.
And while that’s unusual, things get really interesting Jan. 25-29.
Faith will face three teams in five days. They will host Austin Hill Country Jan. 25, travel to play Bulverde Bracken Jan. 27, and host Waldorf Jan. 29.
"I’ve never seen it in my whole career," said Lady Flames head coach Jerry English.
That’s quite a statement, considering English has 1,018 career victories in almost 40 years of coaching.
Adding to the mix is the Faith Academy Gala the night of Jan. 29.
To be fair, Faith organizers Stuart and Rebecca Nunnally said the gala is always the Saturday before the Super Bowl.
That date was decided before basketball coaches met to discuss the district schedule.
English said his preference is to stay as close to a Tuesday and Friday game schedule as possible, which means lighter practices on Mondays and Thursdays with a heavy practice on Wednesdays.
"It is what it is," the coach said.
