Marble Falls track coach hopes to lead youth down running path

MARBLE FALLS — Anthony Torns' passion for running led him to the track. The finish line for him was an even better lift.

The former Flint, Mich., native hopes running will do for youngsters what it did for him. That's why for the second consecutive summer, Torns' Wings of Eagles Track Club is conducting a summer track series.

Lady Flames fourth in close state title competition

WACO — No matter how Faith Academy girls track and field head coach Steve McCannon calculated, he knew the Class 2A state title of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools would come down to the final event of the day, the 4x400-meter relay.

And it did.

Muenster Sacred Heart won the event by .07 seconds to claim the state title. Faith, which was within a handful of points, was seventh in the relay for a fourth-place team finish.

Llano runner medals, Marble Falls athlete places at state meet

AUSTIN — Two area athletes competed at the state track and field meet May 11 with one of them bringing home a medal.

Llano High School senior Marcos Vallejo earned a bronze medal in the Class 3A 3,200 meters in 9 minutes, 39.45 seconds.

Marble Falls High School junior Cody Schulz was seventh in the Class 4A long jump with a mark of 21 feet 5.25 seconds.

Faith Academy boys, 7th with 33 points at state meet

WACO — Faith Academy junior pole vaulter Jake Diamond paced the Flames at the Class 2A state meet of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools thanks to successfully defending his state title May 4. And he did it with a performance of which most athletes dream.

Burnet girls perform well at regional track meet

CORPUS CHRISTI — After the Burnet High School girls track team finished in the top three in the pole vault at district, they were looking for the same results at the recent Class 3A Region IV Meet. But a strong breeze and stronger competition made it more difficult.
