Burnet High School welcomes new volleyball, softball coaches

BURNET — Monica Myers and Alfonso Chavez are the new head volleyball and softball coaches at Burnet Consolidated Independent School District after the board unanimously approved their hires May 21.

Myers has been the head volleyball coach at Kerrville Tivy for the past eight years.

BURNET — Burnet High School athletes were honored for their accomplishments the past several months during an award ceremony May 17. Coaches also announced team awards during the event.

FOOTBALL: Zach Maldonado – Offensive Back of the Year;  Cody Letterman – Offensive Lineman of the Year;  Demone Belmarez – Offensive Most Valuable Player; Cameron Langley – Defensive Lineman of the Year;  Fermin Molina – Defensive Back of the Year; Ryan Rundzieher – Defensive MVP; Austin Huff – Special Teams

Highland Lakes residents get tough, and dirty, at Spartan Race

BURNET —  Several Highland Lakes residents tested their mettle during the Spartan Race at Reveille Peak Ranch on May 19-20.

Isaiah Vidal, 19, was second overall in the Sprint Spartan Elite Race on May 20 in 53 minutes 24 seconds and fifth overall in the Sprint Spartan Elite Race on May 19 in 56:51. He won his age group both days.

Highland Lakes athletes to test endurance in Spartan Race at Reveille Peak Ranch

BURNET — Several local athletes will test their mettle in the Spartan Race that makes a stop at Reveille Peak Ranch on May 19-20.

The ranch is located at 105 CR 114.

Among those athletes are Isaiah Vidal, a 2010 graduate of Marble Falls High School, and Craig Orton, a teacher at Marble Falls Independent School District.

Burnet County 4-H shooters have their eyes on the prize

MARBLE FALLS — The Burnet County 4-H Precision Rifle Team performed well during the state 4-H District 7 competition rifle match.

The event was held April 28 at the Copperhead Creek Gun Club and attracted top shooters from 23 counties, including Irion County west of San Angelo and Shackleford County, just east of Abilene.
