GRANITE SHOALS — A case in which a thief used a woman's cell phone stolen from a car to set up drug deals has police reminding residents to lock up their valuables.
Eli Roy Bernal, 18, is charged with two counts of burglary of a vehicle and theft of property $50-$500. Bonds on the burglary charges are $2,500 each and $1,500 on the other allegation, according to records.
Johnny Millroy Maynard, 22, also is charged in the case on two counts of burglary of a vehicle, with bonds set at $2,500, according to Burnet County Jail records.
Both remained behind bars Nov. 22, officials said.
The case began when a purse, cell phone and other items disappeared from a vehicle in the 300 block of East Castlelake on Nov. 17, officers said.
Police said they got a break in the probe when an investigator received information that a stolen phone was being used in narcotics transactions.
Investigators said the pair are also being looked at in connection with a vehicle burglary in the 900 block of North Baker Street.
