SILVER CREEK  — A 47-year-old Dripping Springs man hindered by high winds apparently drowned May 29 in Lake Buchanan despite attempts to revive him on land.

"We don't know exactly, but it's possible the high winds hampered his ability to make it back to shore," said Mike Cox, a spokesman for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

He may have struggled in the deep water against the current and high winds, officials indicated.

Henry Scripps was swimming off Shaw Island in the northwest portion of the lake when he went under around 5 p.m., Cox said.

"We got a call from the Llano County Sheriff's Office saying that there was a man having difficulty in the water," Cox said. "We dispatched a game warden by boat to the location."

When the game warden arrived, he learned the man was recovered and taken by a private boat to a Burnet County park in the Silver Creek community, Cox said.
