BURNET — A third-place tie in the race for a seat on the City Council could be decided by a recount May 27.

If not, another election will be held June 30, officials said.

“This (recount) is a (state) requirement,” City Secretary Kelly Dix said during a council meeting May 24.

Both Carlos "Buddy" Coker and Philip Thurman emerged from the May 14 election with 166 votes, according to Barbara Agnew, the Burnet County elections administrator.
