BURNET — With predictions becoming more dire about the drought, Burnet County commissioners plan to study its impact on the local economy.
If the water in storage reservoirs Buchanan and Travis fall by spring to levels below the drought of record in the 1950s, leaders say the loss could hurt the Highland Lakes' economy.
"The drought is an emergency situation," County Judge Donna Klaeger said.
The county commissioners plan to launch an economic impact study next month, funded by the Burnet County hotel/motel occupancy taxes, Klaeger told the Marble Falls City Council Nov. 1.
"It (the study) is vital," Klaeger said. "It will help us understand how to deal with the drought economically and emotionally."
