MARBLE FALLS — Residents who haven’t gotten their pets spayed or neutered because of the cost don’t need to worry anymore, thanks to grants received by a local animal assistance agency.

“We’ve landed several grants to help people who thought they couldn’t afford it,” said Deborah Nelson of Marble Falls Pet PALS. The organization provides low-cost spaying and neutering through regular clinics at 2003 RR 1431.

“We’ve had a great year when it comes to getting grants,” Nelson said.

The organization helps pet owners in Marble Falls and Granite Shoals, many of whom are classified as low income.

Last year the organization provided much-needed assistance to Granite Shoals residents, Nelson said, and this year Pet PALS has landed another $5,000 grant to target the same community to spay and neuter dogs.

In addition, the Highland Lakes Service League donated $400 to help with rabies vaccinations, Nelson said.

“The bottom line is we need to get the word out to Granite Shoals residents who need to get their dogs spayed or neutered that we can help,” Nelson said. “The grants are for people who may economically not be able to afford the service, so if anybody has any questions whether they qualify or if we can help, please call us. And this one is for dogs only.”

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals recently added to the Pet PALS’ coffers thanks to a $5,000 grant.

PetSmart Charities chipped in an $11,550 grant to Pet PALS to assist Marble Falls residents with spaying and neutering their dogs and cats. Again, Nelson said, the grant is for people who otherwise might not be able to afford the service.

“We really want to encourage people to take advantage of the services,” Nelson said. “If people think they need financial assistance, please give us a call.”

The number is (830) 598-7729 or go to www.petpalsmarblefalls.org.

The organization has monthly spay/neuter clinics at its Marble Falls’ facility. The upcoming clinics are Feb. 18, March 7 and March 24 at 8 a.m.
