LAKE BUCHANAN — A Mexican national died July 23, several hours after he fell off a floating tube into Lake Buchanan at Llano County Park during a weekend outing, according to a Texas Parks and Wildlife Department report.

TPWD officials identified the man as 28-year-old Juan Antonio Bolanos, who went under about 7 p.m. July 22 in an area on the west side of Lake Buchanan.

“Witnesses say he was on a float tube on the water, (and) at some point, fell off the float tube,” TPWD spokesman Steve Lightfoot said. “Friends on shore did not notice it for about 15 minutes.”

Investigators reported the victim was not known to be a strong swimmer.

“They were able to go out and recover him, bring him to shore,” Lightfoot said.

Llano County EMS and the Buchanan Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene.

The victim was airlifted to Seton Williamson County in Round Rock with a “faint pulse.”

He was pronounced dead at the hospital at 2:30 a.m.

Investigators are describing the incident as an “accidental drowning.”
