MARBLE FALLS — A consolidated driver’s license office has opened with an additional online feature aimed at minimizing wait times for Burnet County residents, according to Texas Department of Public Safety officials.

The DPS opted to close office locations at Burnet County Courthouse annexes in Burnet and Marble Falls and move staff to a centralized location at 1405 Mormon Mill Road, Suite A, in Marble Falls.

Burnet County had provided the rent-free spaces for several years, until local officials asked the state entity to move in order to expand office space for the county.

A grand opening ceremony is scheduled for noon April 11 at the new location.

The new space includes four work stations and so-called “queuing” technology for customers so they can virtually put themselves in line by going online prior to arriving at the office.

“No one wants to wait around in the driver’s license (office) all day. This feature allows you to check in online,” DPS spokeswoman Robbie Barrera said. “(Using the system) let’s you know when your number comes up.

“You can get some errands done, or go get a cold drink, then you can get to the driver’s license office, and they’re ready for you,” she added.

DPS officials conducted a soft opening of the new office March 27 prior to closing the old locations.

“The technology is supposed to be better for everyone, the citizens coming in and the employees, to be more efficient in the driver’s license process,” Barrera said.

  1. If the old timers in Burnet would let their town grow, they CAN have all they want. There are other ways to get to the office folks.

  2. This is about the worst location to put a Driver’s License Office in Marble Falls. The intersection at Mormon Mill and Mission Hills is already congested. With the new apartment complex to open behind Home Depot traffic will triple what it is now.

Try sitting at the light during after school hours. It’s a nightmare. I have been rear-ended just waiting for the light to change.

You can barely get in and out of the Post Office just across the highway because of traffic.

We were asked over a year ago how the intersection at the red light could be improved. Input was submitted. Nothing changed.

The parking lot where the location of the new DLO is not very large. It is on a slope and not very accessible for traffic trying to get in and out of the parking lot.

    This was not thought through.

    1. I have to agree with Jeanette on this as this area is already too congested. Also wonder why Burnet did not get this office.

  3. Once again, Burnet gets the chili (even though it is the County Seat) and Marble Falls comes out smelling like a rose.

  4. You know, if you don’t want the elderly driving, then just go to your legislature and at least let them know what’s going on. This is ridiculous! If I didn’t know better, I’d think I was in Austin! Whatever happened to small-town feel?!?!?!?!

  5. This is a terrific convenience for Marble Falls/Meadowlakes/Horseshoe Bay residents. Can you also pay for auto registration there?
