MARBLE FALLS — Now that the city of Marble Falls has created a Keep Marble Falls Beautiful subcommittee, officials are celebrating with the first Community Pride Spring Clean Beautification Award, which will be given to a neighborhood.

Officials want residents to take before and after photos of their neighborhoods to show judges how they cleaned up their yards and homes along with a statement of what kind of work was done.

Enter the contest by going to ci.marble-falls.tx.us and clicking on Community News to find the entry form. The deadline to enter is May 20.

The winning neighborhood will be recognized at the June 21 city council meeting.

City secretary Christina McDonald said officials have deliberately kept “beautiful” in broad terms for this contest to allow residents to express themselves in their unique ways.

Some might decide to plant flower beds and trees to honor Mother Nature, while others might spruce up their bird baths, rid themselves of old shrubs, apply a fresh coat of paint or do some other home improvement.

“It’s up to their definition,” she said.

During a council meeting several months ago, Parks and Recreation Commissioner Charles Watkins asked if the city’s Parks and Recreation Department and the commission would be interested in joining Keep Texas Beautiful, a statewide organization committed to picking up litter and trash, beautification programs, ongoing recycling programs and other community educational programs.

The city participated in the Lower Colorado River Authority’s Steps Forward Day program April 1 during which 90 bags of litter from around the city was collected.

During the May 2 parks and recreation meeting, Parks and Recreation Department Director Robert Moss told the commissioners Keep Texas Beautiful would move the city off of provisional status if three commissioners served on a subcommittee. A subcommittee is in the process of being formed.

Moss said Keep Marble Falls Beautiful falls in line with how residents feel about the city.

“Marble Falls is growing at a steady pace, and we want to make sure that our community remains beautiful and attractive to all tourists, daytrippers, summer home visitors, potential new residents and permanent residents alike. Keep Marble Falls Beautiful is here to educate, engage and inspire our community to be the best Marble Falls that it can be.”

  1. Oh, for starters just pick up the whole neighborhood west of avenue N and put it in the trash. That area seems to never be visited by marble falls code enforcement.. Then when you make your area beautiful they will raise your taxes.
How about the city beautify the roads? Then we can vote on their progress…

    1. You could always volunteer to help clean up that area so the code enforcement people don’t have to fine the poorer classes. But then once clean they may pay higher taxes for a nicer property.
