FROM STAFF REPORTS

BURNET — An elderly man died April 17 in a house fire.

Burnet Fire Department and EMS along with the Burnet County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a residential fire in the 6000 block of Texas 29 at about 11:40 p.m. When units arrived, they found a single-story wood and masonry home with fire coming out of its roof.

During the course of fighting the blaze, firefighters discovered a deceased individual in the home. BCSO and fire investigators determined it was the body of 80-year-old Juan Garcia.

The fire, which was east of Burnet, was initially reported by a motorist passing by the area, according to BCSO officials.

The body was transported to the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

“The state fire marshal’s office was called to investigate the origin and cause of the fire,” BCSO Chief Deputy Joey Canady stated in a media release.
