MARBLE FALLS — The Marble Falls High School football team travels to Brownwood on Aug. 15 for its first scrimmage of the 2015 season.

The freshmen play at 9 a.m., junior varsity at 10 a.m. and the varsity at 11 a.m. at Gordon Wood Stadium, 3206 Milam Drive in Brownwood.

The format is a controlled scrimmage, which means each first-string offense will face the opponent’s first-string defense. Then, the reserves will play. In all, each offense is guaranteed 56 plays.

Mustangs head coach Matt Green set his expectations for the players when they face the Lions.

“I want to see the kids play hard,” he said. “I want to see them play with aggression and get out healthy.”

Junior quarterbacks Cade Cool and Robert Atkinson will each take snaps and line up in other positions when needed.

The coach will be evaluating the quarterbacks’ knowledge of the playbook by the way they line up their teammates, go through their progressions and make decisions.

“A big part of being the quarterback is leadership,” he said. “I want to see them operate the offense, make good decisions and move the chains.”

The Mustangs’ next scrimmage is Aug. 21 against Kerrville Tivy at Antler Stadium, located at Stadium and Holdsworth drives in Kerrville.

Marble Falls travels to Burnet on Aug. 28 to begin the 2015 regular season with kickoff at 7:30 p.m. at Bulldog Field, 1000 The Green Mile.
