FROM STAFF REPORTS

MARBLE FALLS — Police arrested a 15-year-old Marble Falls High School student Jan. 29 after he allegedly threatened a teacher and classmates in a Facebook post.

Marble Falls Police Lt. Steve Eckstein confirmed the arrest of the youth after officers learned of the alleged threat made through a Facebook post.

“He posted death threats on his Facebook account,” Eckstein said. “It was the circumstances of the threat. He put a substantial number of citizens in fear.”

In one Facebook post obtained by DailyTrib.com, the student threatened to kill a teacher as well as the teacher’s family.

Eckstein said officers learned the teenager allegedly threatened students as well as educators.

Police charged the juvenile male with making a terroristic threat, a third-degree felony.

Marble Falls High School Principal Manny Lunoff said several students reported the Facebook post to staff members Jan. 29. When school officials became aware of the threats, they contacted the police and pulled the student from class, Lunoff said.

“I was really proud of the kids for bringing it to our attention and keeping our campus as safe as possible,” he said. “It was students that brought it to our attention, so we were able to respond quickly due to their help.”

After the youth’s arrest, Lunoff said school staff contacted students, some of who he directly threatened and others who were tagged on the posts.

“We contacted students to make sure of their emotional well-being as well as talked to parents,” the principal said. “We definitely have counseling services that are there, since we started dealing with it. We made sure all the staff was aware of the situation (and) that there might be some kids looking for support.”
