Jerry Madden, a resident of Meadowlakes, Texas, passed away April 21, 2014, after a recent illness. Born in Ironton, Ohio, on Oct. 8, 1927, Frederick Jerome Madden was the son of John L. and Lorena Madden of Ironton.

He was a resident of Ironton until he enlisted in the army in 1945 after graduating St. Joseph’s High School.

He served in Austria for two years and then attended Xavier University in Ohio after the end of World War II. He graduated in 1950 and was employed by Ashland Oil as a chemist. He was transferred to Buffalo, N.Y., where he served at Ashland’s Tonawanda Refinery before transferring to its sales force, and also worked on his master’s degree. In 1964, Mr. Madden became the sales manager for Ashland Chemical and relocated to Worthington, Ohio. Two years later, he became a consultant for an Ashland subsidiary in Downer’s Grove, Ill., and, from there, was reassigned to Houston as a sales manager.

Later, he began a partnership business Solvents and Chemicals and moved to Taylor Lake from west Houston. After retirement, he and his wife, Barbara, moved to Highland Haven, Texas, and then Meadowlakes, Texas.

Mr. Madden was surrounded by a large and loving family. He met his wife, Barbara (nee Barron), in high school, and they enjoyed 63 years together as a married couple and had seven children. His family enjoyed his corny sense of humor and his astute mind. Always an avid reader, he encouraged all of his children to graduate from college, and he was proud that they all did.

Mr. Madden is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughter Kathleen Meador and husband Steve; son Dr. Kenneth Madden and wife Sandra; daughter Peggy Madden and husband Ken Bosna; daughter Patricia Elliott and husband Tim; daughter Bridget Madden and husband David Garcia; son John Madden and wife Pam; and son Christopher Madden and wife Connie. In addition, there are numerous grandchildren: Nicole Scott, Brooke Meador, Suzanne Meador, Katie Meador, Michael Madden, Jennie Madden, Jason Elliott, Sean Elliott, Rebecca Santasarie, Rachel Kakos, Patrick Madden, Trevor Madden, Colin Madden, Pumarie Madden, Jesse Madden and Logan Madden; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Madden also has a brother, Dr. Michael Madden, and sisters-in-law, Karen and Christine.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Thomas and his wife Janet; and nephew Brian.

A viewing is 10 a.m. April 25 followed by funeral Mass at 11 a.m. and a reception at St. John’s Catholic Church, 105 RR 1431 East in Marble Falls.

In lieu flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society, care of St John’s Church.

Arrangements by Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 1805 U.S. 281 North in Marble Falls, (830) 693-4373.
