Man jailed after police find drugs at Bertram home near day-care center

BERTRAM — Authorities arrested a 33-year-old man after finding methamphetamines at a residence across the street from a church-run day-care center, according to police.

Williamson County investigators initiated the search warrant at about 6:30 a.m. June 6 in the 300 block of South East Street.

Authorities say they found an amount of methamphetimines.

Jason Steaples, 33, was charged with possession of a controlled substance in a drug-free zone.

A Bertram police spokesman said the residential block was temporarily closed during the search. Williamson County authorities also requested helicopter support during the search, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. The scene was cleared about 9 a.m.

According to jail records, Steaples was booked into the Burnet County Jail. Information about his bond is pending.
