Everett Eugene Van Horn, 83, of Burnet died May 13, 2010. He was born in Quincy, Ill., Aug. 7, 1926, to William Daniel and Martha Elizabeth Van Horn.
He served in the Navy during World War II aboard the USS West Virginia, and was in Tokyo Harbor when the Japanese surrendered in 1945.
After he returned from the war in 1947, he married Kathryn Mitchell of Malvern, Ark.
The couple moved to Van Horn in 1961, where he was successful in the hospitality business. They moved to Burnet in 1984, where he was employed by the Burnet Consolidated Independent School District for two years following his first retirement.
Survivors include his wife; sons Joe Van Horn and wife Leigh of Ennis, Mich., Mitch Van Horn and wife Glenda of Brady and daughter Jeanne and husband Keith of Alvarado; grandchildren Joel Van Horn of Elgin, Deborah Chapman and husband Robert of Savannah, Texas, Torre Dominguez and husband Josh of Cedar Park, Ty Van Horn and wife Haleigh of Houston, Kimberly Irvin and Daniel of Midlothian, and Kristin Ringler of Alvarado; and great-grandson Drake Chapman of Savannah, Texas.
Funeral services were May 16 at First Baptist Church of Burnet.
